Message from David L’Herroux, UCB Chief Executive

UCB is on the move – reaching more people, in more places, more of the time.

God has entrusted UCB to share His hope with our entire nation for more than 28 years – through The UCB Word For Today, UCB Radio and UCB TV plus many other ministry areas.

And over this time, we have changed and adapted to maximize opportunities to share God’s Word with as many people as possible.

Now is the time to move again – making the most of the latest digital technology to reach more people than ever before. And with this move, you’ll start to see new ways you can connect with UCB – e.g. with the new UCB Player* and you’ll start to see changes to our programming to offer you more choice.

For UCB, these opportunities will mean changes to the way we work. Improved technology has allowed us to centralise our broadcasting and improve operations and sound quality. Unfortunately, our UCB Radio presenter (based in Belfast) Juls Martin is unable to join us in the Broadcasting Centre, Stoke on Trent.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Juls for his commitment to UCB Radio over the last 6 years and, I’m sure I speak for all our listeners to UCB UK weeknights. Juls, together with the support from the team, has developed a tremendous ‘on-air friendship’ and has spoken great words of inspiration and encouragement to many listeners – as well as sharing lots of fun and laughter! Juls’ last programme on UCB UK will be on Friday 21 August 2015.

I would also like to share my grateful thanks to our faithful listeners and supporters around the country, who have made the journey with us over the last 28 years. UCB quite simply could not be making these advances, reaching more and more people with God’s Word throughout the entire UK and seeing the incredible impact without your continued support. Thank you.

God bless.

David L’Herroux
UCB Chief Executive

United Christian Broadcasters launches UCB Player

United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) has launched UCB Player, a new app which allows users to access all of UCB’s radio and TV channels, live and also via 7 days’ of Catch Up and On Demand.

From Monday (June 22) the UCB player will be available online and on all portable net-connected devices, including Android, Kindle Fire and iOS. In addition, the UCB Player will soon also be available via Internet-connected Smart TVs and on Freeview channel 241 (through the TVPlayer portal).

UCB’s Director of Broadcasting and Publishing Dave Withers said, “The way people watch TV and listen to radio has changed dramatically in the last few years and this new Player has taken us a long time to develop. It means that people can now access great movies, teaching programmes and concerts both live and on Catch-up, as well as listen again to any radio programmes on our 3 stations they may have missed in the previous 7 days. The Player is one of the first of its kind in UK Christian broadcasting and we’re excited about the possibilities.”

UCB has produced print and video guides online, (with characters Professor Algernon Braithwaite Browning (Esquire) and his technical assistant Prosser) demonstrating how to get the UCB Player on Smart TVs and portable devices. More info at http://www.ucb.co.uk/player

Announcement on UCB Extra and UCB Bible

Following a review on growth, UCB has announced that at the end of April, we will cease to broadcast two of our internet-based radio stations, UCB Extra and UCB Bible.

UCB is in a really exciting growth phase and we’re reviewing all that we do in line with our vision. With huge advances in technology, our listeners are increasingly requesting more quality content to be available via ‘On Demand’. With this in mind, some of the best elements of UCB Extra (including the weekly music Beats show) will now move to our national DAB station UCB UK and will feature as podcasts on a brand new multi-platform app which is soon to be released. There are also a great number of resources and websites available that allow people to listen to an audio version of the Bible with many more features than UCB Bible.

UCB will now be focusing on our three main radio stations; UCB UK, UCB Inspirational and UCB Gospel, each offering music for different tastes, from the top 10 in contemporary Christian music, through to Gospel and more reflective, worship-style music. The stations are available on various platforms including DAB, apps and online.

David Withers, Director of Broadcasting and Publications has said, ‘We believe that these changes will help us to continue to focus on the development of great content which will strengthen, inspire and encourage all of our listeners in their faith and discovery of God.’
