UCB goes live with a new radio automation and scheduling system, RCS Zetta and gSelector

National Christian Broadcaster UCB (United Christian Broadcasters) has gone live with a new radio automation and scheduling system, Zetta and gSelector, making it the first completely virtualised radio system in the UK.

It is also the first to use Microsoft’s Hyper V3 and the first with an integrated all digital audio desk environment from Wheatstone.

Ian De Soyza, UCB’s Director of Technology said, ‘This implementation marks a significant milestone in UCB and RCS UK’s history, because it is the first completely virtualised radio system in the UK, and only the 2nd in Europe.  These combined technologies provide a future-proof solution which we believe will serve UCB well for at least the next decade.   It will enable UCB to be more resilient and will allow us to support emerging partners and affiliates.’

RCS Vice President of RCS EMEA region, Sven Andrae attended the official launch today at UCB (Dec 7).

New TV studios launched in Stoke on Trent

National Christian media organisation, United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) has opened a brand new, purpose built TV studio at its Burslem site.

The broadcaster has been producing faith-based TV programmes for UCB TV and other religious broadcasters from its Hanchurch site for several years, but has recently installed a second studio at its Westport Road building.  The studio includes two sets, one is a fixed set themed as a coffee shop and the second part is a flexible space used for filming conferences and interviews.

On May 18, UCB will open its doors to the public for the filming of ‘Facing the Canon’ with international speaker and minister Canon J.John.  The programme airs around the world and features interviews with some of the best-known names in the Christian community, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby and the former Commander in Chief of the British Army, Sir Richard Dannatt.

“We’re looking forward to filming Facing the Canon in the new TV studios,” said Dave Withers, Director of Broadcasting at UCB.  “We’ll have a TV studio audience and it’s free to attend, so if anyone would like to see the heart behind a Christian TV station, they can reserve tickets on our website”.

Facing the Canon is on May 18 at 7pm.  To be part of the studio audience, free tickets can be reserved at www.ucb.co.uk/canon

Pictures of the new studio can be downloaded (for use in print/online publications) here

United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) is very pleased to confirm that UCB 2 (formerly known as UCB Inspirational) will be available UK-wide on DAB radio from Monday Feb 29, 2016.

This will be UCB’s second national Christian station on the DAB platform;   UCB 1 features contemporary Christian music, topical chat and specialist music shows and UCB 2 features songs for worship, encouraging conversation and Bible-based features from contributors such as Jarrod Cooper, Steve Uppal, Chuck Swindoll and Charles Stanley.

David Withers, Director of Broadcasting at UCB said, ‘UCB’s listeners have faithfully and consistently supported the plan to put UCB 2 onto a national DAB platform.  We are so encouraged by their support and prayers to help make this a reality.   We believe this choice of stations gives people even more ways to tune in and hear great Christian music and teaching, to help them grow in their faith.’

Isla Deveron minister to travel to Kenya with Christian radio station and child development charity.

Rev Sarah Murray, a minister with the Isla Deveron churches (in the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness) will be part of a group travelling to Kenya next week, with Christian radio station UCB (United Christian Broadcasters) and child development charity Compassion UK.

Throughout July, any UCB listener who sponsored a child with Compassion, was considered to join a trip to Kenya to meet their newly sponsored child. Rev Murray was one of two sponsors selected and will be visiting her sponsored child, and Compassion projects in the Kisumu area. The trip will be covered on UCB radio throughout the week and a documentary following Sarah’s journey will be made and later shown on UCB TV.

“I was delighted to hear that I had been selected to join the trip,” said Rev Murray. “I think it will be an incredible opportunity both to meet Faith, my sponsored child, but also to bring stories and news back home to the community here in the North East of Scotland and in particular Keith, Huntly and Aberchirder. I think this will be an eye opening experience and a unique opportunity to see what life is like for many people in the developing world.”

Director of Broadcasting at UCB, Dave Withers said, “We’re looking forward to this trip, and to helping to raise awareness of the good that child sponsorship can do, for children and communities overseas. The documentary will be part of our ‘World of Hope’ series and will be shown on UCB TV later in September’.

The group travels to Kenya Sept 2-9

Message from David L’Herroux, UCB Chief Executive

UCB is on the move – reaching more people, in more places, more of the time.

God has entrusted UCB to share His hope with our entire nation for more than 28 years – through The UCB Word For Today, UCB Radio and UCB TV plus many other ministry areas.

And over this time, we have changed and adapted to maximize opportunities to share God’s Word with as many people as possible.

Now is the time to move again – making the most of the latest digital technology to reach more people than ever before. And with this move, you’ll start to see new ways you can connect with UCB – e.g. with the new UCB Player* and you’ll start to see changes to our programming to offer you more choice.

For UCB, these opportunities will mean changes to the way we work. Improved technology has allowed us to centralise our broadcasting and improve operations and sound quality. Unfortunately, our UCB Radio presenter (based in Belfast) Juls Martin is unable to join us in the Broadcasting Centre, Stoke on Trent.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Juls for his commitment to UCB Radio over the last 6 years and, I’m sure I speak for all our listeners to UCB UK weeknights. Juls, together with the support from the team, has developed a tremendous ‘on-air friendship’ and has spoken great words of inspiration and encouragement to many listeners – as well as sharing lots of fun and laughter! Juls’ last programme on UCB UK will be on Friday 21 August 2015.

I would also like to share my grateful thanks to our faithful listeners and supporters around the country, who have made the journey with us over the last 28 years. UCB quite simply could not be making these advances, reaching more and more people with God’s Word throughout the entire UK and seeing the incredible impact without your continued support. Thank you.

God bless.

David L’Herroux
UCB Chief Executive
